Hypnotic repetition of lush chords drives the multiple layers of percussive syncopations on Dion Kerr’s first single “Bloom”, from his upcoming BACE Records release IVY. Throughout the track, Kerr evokes a worldly feeling while maintaining his compositional storytelling and eclectic sound. The main melodies remain simple, floating above the ever-changing backgrounds. Listeners are greeted by young trumpet phenom Adam O’Farrill midway through the song as he maneuvers his way through Kerr’s structure. The two have shared stages in New York City in the past but this is the first time they have been properly documented together. Setting the mood for the rest of IVY, “Bloom” gives a window into the sonic space which Kerr will “sound off” in.
